I would be willing to be that the most asked question today is “Do you remember where you were when IT happened?” I was just coming off of a shift working in the Computer Lab at the college library. I remember seeing the report on the first attack from the TV in the library. The roommate of my girlfriend at the time was from Brooklyn and I remember the first thing we did was go looking for her; She tried for two days to try and reach her parents but the phone lines were so jammed that she had no luck…eventually, she got through and they were ok but her extended family had several members die (if I remember correctly)…we spent the entire day glued to this little 15 inch tv that had rabbit years, watching all the reports.
It is weird to think back on it….almost like it was a completely different life. I would never want this to fade from my memory or the feeling I had…that was the first time that I really, seriously considered the argument “Why do bad thing happen to good people? or …innocent people?” I didn’t come to an answer until less than a year ago when I was at a men’s bible study that was guest taught by Denny Burk (His blog is linked on the front page…) It was there that I realized taht the whole premise of the question is wrong…there are no “good” people! ” All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God” (Rom. 3:23) When I am reminded of something like 9-11, I am able to see just a glimpse of what I really deserve as a sinner…I see just a little piece of hell. It makes me even more thankful for God’s saving grace…
