By far one fo the more enjoyable things that I have done this (bible fellowship)school year is to help lead the 6th grade bible study. And this month, we are reading a Proverbs a day for the month of October. Well, I am getting a little bit of a late start but I will make it up at the end…

Proverbs 8 – The Blessings of Wisdom

Verses 1-5
I love the way that Wisdom doesn’t stay hidden. She is “at the crossroads” and ” on the heights”. I don’t have to dig for years and years to find one morsel of Wisdom as if it were a solitary diamond; instead, she is shouting for me to take her and to gain her.

Verses 5-21
Then Wisdom goes on this 16 verse description of her self, how she is truthful and upright, as well as her value. Verse 10-11…

 10 Choose my instruction rather than silver,
      and knowledge rather than pure gold.
 11 For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies.
      Nothing you desire can compare with it.

…reminds me of the old adage, “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach him how to fish, feed him for a lifetime.” If I will learn to get and head wisdom, I will have a treasure that is infinitely better than any amount of gold. The gold I can simply spend and it is gone; but once I have wisdom, it permiates everything I do and noe one can take it away.

Verses 22-31
Reading these verse was amazing because I had never heard this before…Wisdom talk about how she was made long before the earth was even formed. She says she was set up “at the first”. I know that this personification is use througout Proverbs but I love how Wisdom is personified as a live being. I think that is what really seperates her from knowledge. Knowledge is great and vast but ultimatley 2D; it is a staic, still, thing. But Wisdom is 3D and even 4D and full of vibrance and activitey. If knowledge is a noun, wisdom is a verb!
And not only was Wisdom there, but she was working to help him form the earth; she was “rejoicing before him always”.

Verse 32-36
Now, Wisdom goes back to the benefits of not only listneing to her, but even more so act on her instructions. By the end of this chapter, I have a sense that this is not a presonification but rather a real being…
