Depending on who you talk to, most of my friends would tell you that apart from the occasional phone call, I am horrible at keeping in touch. It’s actually really frustrating for me because I like to know what is going on in the lives of people that I love…well, I have found something that makes that a little easier. You have probably heard of RSS and even if you haven’t (it is basically just a summary of updates from a web page) it can be really useful for keep in touch with good friends. The only thing you need is for you to have an RSS aggregator (I have no idea why it is called that) and for your friend to have a blog or website of some sort that has a RSS feed. For example, when you use Firefox to look at my blog, there is a little orange button in the far right side of the address bar. When you click on it, it will give you the option to save the RSS feed to your toolbar. This is also nice for easy access but it tends to clutter up the toolbar if you have more than a couple of RSS feeds. So, I just cut and past the RSS feed (You can find it by adding the feed to your toolbar in Firefox and then right clicking on the feed in your toolbar and select properties) to an aggregator. I use Vienna but you can find all different kinds (check out this article) Then I am able to go to one place to see all the updates from the people I love to read about!
