Some of the old school Premiere faithful will already know this, but for the recently orphaned Final Cut users, this is another great reason to look at Premiere as your new home: you can import your projects from Final Cut into Adobe Premiere using XML.
Now granted, it isn’t perfect; some of the stock transitions might not be exactly the same and I am not sure what it will do with Effects like Looks from Magic Bullet, even if you have the plugin installed for both programs, but the important thing is that it is a start.
It is kinda funny to think that at this moment, Adobe does a better job of working with Final Cut Project files than FCPX.
The quick start instructions are as follows:
1. Open your project in Final Cut.
2. Go To “File->Export->XML” and select the latest XML format.
3. Close FCP and open up Premiere
4. Once Premier loads, create a new project with a similar name to the one from Final Cut (doesn’t have to be the same name).
5. Go To “File->Import” and select the XML file.
6. Bingo! All of the bins, sequences, clips, etc. will be ready to go!
Check out the Adobe help page on more information and how the stock effects will substitute.
