One of the most telling elements that separates good indie films from bad ones is sound. And for good reason! While the digital video side has been racing to get smaller and higher quality, sound has been the turtle. However, that was before the Zoom H4N. I was first introduced to this little wonder when working freelance for You+Dallas; and it was love at first sight! I can’t begin to list all of the things that the H4N can do but I will hit on the high ones: four audio inputs including 2 on-board stereo mics and 2 XLR or 1/4 inch inputs; phantom power; long battery life (esspecially on Stamina mode)’ mic and headset level adjustment; and on and on….
