Wordpress Troubleshooting

I found a great page that lists things to try when experience problems with wordpress. I was getting an error whenever I tried to get to my dashboard after upgrading the latest version of Wordpress and this page was a huge help. I ended up having to go back through and do a manual re-install but it fixed the problem!

New Site Look – MaxBlog

There are many things I have learned about “church” having been working at one the last two years that I never knew despite having attended one for most of my life. For example, did you know that at the typical north america church, 20% of the people at the church do 80% of the work…Or did you know that won’t tell you that they are VERY alergic to flour even though they volunteered to play a game that involves someone rooting around in a pie pan filled with flour for gummy worms? Just think that scene from Hitch but about 20 years younger. Another funny thing about church is that generally the calendar year ends at the end of august and begins in the first weekend of sept with a magical ritual called “promotions”. (Yes, I used the word magical in a sentence about a church…don’t over think it…pick up the sarcasim) Since that is the begining of the curriculum year, that is when most of our “year” kicks off. So in the spirit of the church calendar, I am revamping and reinventing the site. There are a couple of changes coming, including a narrowing of the focus on the subject that I blog about, and a new video stream. There will also be an occasional personal note but for the most part it will be more film & media focused. Lets see what happens!!!

HOSFU

Yep, I have been AWOL for a month or so because I have been working on a new resource for Christian Filmmakers. Then I came across HOSFU and now I gotta rethink the whole thing! It is actually a great problem to have because HOSFU is already doing alot of what I wanted to accomplish with LifebloodProject. However there are a unique ideas I had that might be an additional help. Now I gotta figure out the next best step….

Oh yeah and you can check out HOSFU here.

Hackin the AppleTV

Last night I spent about an hour following the instructions laid out on this site…and I am sooo happy with it!! It was really easy to grab the programs and mostly idiot proof to put it all on the usb drive. After that it was butter!

Boxee.tv is incredible the way they take all the streams in so many different places and centralizes them.

A Fight worth Figithing…

I don’t like to immediately chalk up hardships or trials to spiritual warfare; however, I strongly believe that there is spiritual warfare going on around us everyday. Funny enough, if I have gone through a period of relative peace and spiritual tranquility, chances are that I am in too comfortable position. My peace is steady on Him, but when life around me is in totally chaos and I feel the spiritual clashing above and below, I have to remind myself that there is a reason. Spiritual warfare only exists when there is something worth fighting over! The object or reason may vary but the motivation is always the same: Satan is trying to keep us from Christ and His will for our lives. And I take encouragement that he ultimately will fail.

Error Uploading files to Wordpress

Posted by brandon On March - 19 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

I kept getting an error that either said “The uploaded file could not be moved to…” or “Couldn’t write file:”

I tried several different ’solutions’ but most of them had to do with using chmod commands and allow some serious security risks (changing your gut files to be able to be written by anyone).

But the simplest answer was the one that worked! I just deleted the upload folder (don’t forget to back it up first!!). The default folder is directory/wordpress/wp-content/uploads. Once I deleted the uploads file, I created a new one and set the permissions to 757)

Hope this helps!

deidox.png A friend of mine pointed me to this site. Generally, I am pretty hesitant about recommending “Christian” media sites because they honestly tend to look below second rate. However, I really like the thought, design, production quality, and ideology behind this site. Check out the “Robert” video. I love the shots and look; but the story is even better.

“Dangerous” Topic?

Posted by brandon On March - 15 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

dangerouscallingI came across this movie site for “Dangerous Calling“. It is billed as a “christian thriller”. Here is the storyline:

A suspense thriller set in the world of small town church politics, Dangerous Calling follows the story of Pastor Evan Burke and his wife Nora as they assume leadership of First Baptist Willit Springs after the mysterious death of the previous pastor.

Eager to get to know the new pastor, Miss Pat, the church’s controlling widow-woman, invites Evan and Nora to stay with her while she has the parsonage renovated. Left alone at Miss Pat’s beautiful home in the mountains of North Georgia, Nora begins to suspect that Miss Pat’s extremely sheltered adult son, Elijah, may have had something to do with the previous pastor’s death.

Although the story involves Christian characters, Dangerous Calling is not your typical church film. Owing more to Psycho and Misery than Left Behind, Dangerous Calling is sure to keep you on the edge of the pew. In this church the politics can be deadly.

I like the fact that this film isn’t afraid to venture into a non-typical genre for christian media. I haven’t seen it but I would love to…the production quality looks pretty good especially for a lower budget film. If you have seen this movie, let me know what you think.
