Married Life is….

Well…Beck and I (and Harley) have been married for 27 days today; and after 27 days, Married Life is…funny. There are tons of words that have come to mind over the last several weeks…and I have no dobut there will be infinitely more words that could send that sentence in the coming years. But right now, marriage is funny. Not ha-ha funny but more “Huh…that’s funny”.
There are countless times over the last month that I have stopped, cocked my head, and said to myself, “Really? Never thought about it that way” or “that isn’t true…is it?”. I don’t want to embarrass Becky (or myself) with examples but suffice to say, living together is both amazing and frustrating simultaneously (though I have to admit it is mostly amazing). One of these days I am going to knock myself soundly in the head because she keeps leaving the kitchen cabnets open. And one of these days I will finally learn how to only use a towel three times before getting a new one.

One thing is for sure: Amazing, Frustrating, Good, Bad, and Ugly, (and beleive me, my most handsome moment is not first thing in the morning) I would not want to experince a single second of this without Becky or with anyone else. Period.

Wedding Photos Are Coming

So many people have been asking me about photos from the wedding and I have felt really bad because, as is typical with the production business, we went from a slow period to being absolutely slammed just about the time I got back from the honeymoon. So for the time being, I will pass on the link for the pictures that two of the photographers took at the wedding. I will get the rest of the pictures and honeymoon pictures up soon!! Thank you for your patience!!

P.S. These guys did an amazing job! Thank you so much Mark and Nate!

Word Virus on Mac - W97M.Thus.gen-2

I noticed the effects of this virus a few weeks ago (Word kept asking me if I wanted to enable macros whenever I would open a file that I had recently saved). Generally, I always tell word to disable any macros because so few files ligitimatley use them.

I didn’t pay to much attention to it because viruses don’t hurt Macs (and this one never did any damage either).

Then it became a nusance because I wasn’t able to email any word files to anyone because I would get this error saying that I was trying to email viruses and that I am an evil person, etc. etc. So I spent the better part of a morning trying to figure out how to get rid of it.

I kept coming across sites that said just to disinfect the bad files with an Antivirus Software of some sort (See “Helpful Links” for the different ratings of Virus software for Macs). The problem was that I could not find the “Normal.dot” file. I tried everything from running scripts to make all files visible, to using spotlight, to going through the Libraries folder by folder. I never did find it. Then I came across a comment on a post that talked about using the Visual Basic Editor in Word to edit the Normal.dot file. And this worked like a charm! Here is what I did…

1. I just opened up Word (and a new, blank document if it doesn’t open automatically).

2. The go to “Tools -> Macros -> Visual Basic Editor”

3. On the Left is a box called “Projects”. The default selection is the blank document that you have open. Above that will be a cascading menu that will say “Normal”. (See the picture)

4. Once you click on “ThisDocument” a bunch of code will show up in the main window. Just select it all (Apple+A) and then delete it. All of it. Don’t spare a single character.

5. Save the changes (Apple+S, or select “Save Normal” under the File Menu)

6. Quit the editor (Apple+Q, or “Close and Return to Microsoft Word” under the Word Menu)

7. Close Word.

That is it! You are all done!!

Limericked Jesus

Footprints in the Sand

There was a man who, at low tide
Would walk with the Lord by his side
Jesus said “Now look back;
You’ll see one set of tracks.
That’s when you got a piggy-back ride.”

I found this on Famous Poems Rewritten as Limericks. I like it. That’s about it.

Random, funny site I came across when I was working on another project. It might not be blog-worthy but it is del.icio.us worthy and I am not sure if I ever blogged about del.icio.us before. It is a great site for keeping track of your links. You can see my links on del.icio.us by going to the “My’s” section and clicking on “My del.icio.us”

More than Meets the Eye

Becky and I went on our first date as a married couple last night…we had a great time!! She got her nails done, I perused the mall and had a hot tea, and we went to see Transformers. What an awesome movie! It has been a long time since I walked out of a movie theater totally jazzed about the movie I just saw but Transfomers takes the cake. They didn’t go for the cheesy romantic angle (like when you are expecting them to kiss in the middle of a huge fight going on but instead they get back to helping the good guys), or the stupid laugh (though I do like the stupid humor), or even the typical socially awkard geek (Shia LaBeouf does a great job of portraying a unique, believable high school student who starts off pretty average).

And the special effects! I mean, I am around FX all the time but these were gorgeous! The guys at ILM (Industrial Lights & Magic) did a simply supurb job on the Robots and the effects. There is a fine line between cheesy and overdone and the nail it right on the money.

But enough about the movie…what really stuck with me from the movie was a comment that Becky made while we were in the middle of watching the movie…

While we were watching all the Army characters fighting to defend the city, Becky couldn’t help but think about Julie (my new sister) and they fighting going on in Iraq. There are a few obvious differences (Julie isn’t frontline infantry and we aren’t being attacked by nearly-indestructible robots) but the special effects guys did such a good job that you can almost feel the bullets whizzing over head. (Ok, no more about the movie I promise)

When I first met Julie, I was a little unsure of what to expect. Becky had told me all about her love for her sister as well as her hard headedness. All I was trying ti figure out was how to make Julie like me because it was obvious that her opnion and relationship meant so much to Becky. Then I spent a little time with Julie when I was meeting some of the family and I quickly realized that nobody makes Julie do anything.
So, Becky said to just be myself and let it happen. And over the last couple of years it has been cool to see or talk to Julie a couple times but not nearly as fun as getting to hang out with her at the rehearsal and wedding. (For example, it was important that I ask Julie for her permission during the ceremony to kiss Becky :) ) Then Julie and I had the first opportunity since Becky and I met to spend some brief one on one time together when she came to stay with us last weekend before heading back to Iraq. It was great to spend some, albeit short, quality time with someone that you have been praying for for months.
By the time we had to take her to the airport, instead of hanging with her at the check in desk for a couple of minutes, we ended up sitting down and laughing and talking for almost 5 hours! (Becky and I even tried to leave once and didn’t even get out of the terminal parking!!) Being the oldest of 6 and having three sisters, I can’t imagine having that kind of relationship with someone I have only seen a handfull of times over the last couple of years. But the three of use were goofing off and having fun like old friends ( ;) At least I was!).  I am both proud and grateful to have a new sister in the military; esspecially one with more courage than I can dream of…

My Beautiful Bride

So to say that there has been allot going on the last month would be an understatement. The wedding has come and gone; our immense thanks to all who came and were apart of that special day with us. We traveled to Scotland for our honeymoon and it was everything we hoped for and more…And now we are back home. I think it is the little things that I have realized that I appreciate the most, at least right now…Little things like being able to stay at the house at the end of the day and not having to drive back to my apartment; better yet, I get to snuggle up with the most beautiful girl in the entire world! I think my favorite part is the mornings…waking up next to Becky, being silly, puttin around the house and making her tea or her making breakfast for all three of us (don’t forget Harley). It is truly a blessing that I can’t begin to describe…

BTW, Work, House, Harley, Work, Reality, Work…all of it is sucking up time but as soon as I get a spare second, I will put something down about what we saw on the honeymoon…

This I Gotta Try…

Came across this on YouTube this morning while I was working on some digitizing stuff at work. This is great. I mean, can you imagine the mullet factor at an event like this?? Drew and I would be in Mullet Spotting Heaven!!!
