“Old Models Die Hard”

Posted by brandon On March - 10 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

I read a great article on the old models versus the new models of film distribution, especially at Sundance. It is interesting to see that, despite the wave of indie productions (specifically the actual writing and shooting of a film), for the most part the distribution model has remained unchanged. I wonder when/if the indie mindset will allow someone to create a new distribution model that will finally incorporate the internet & social media in an efficient manner. Is this the next frontier for indie revolution or will big money-old school win out?

BTW, I love the idea of multi-release strategies on an opening date; Mark Cuban had this idea years ago. I think this is going to be key in new models that will literally push content to people individually instead of corporately to theaters. Now, if we could just get an app that creates butter popcorn on your iphone, we will be all set…

YouTube Direct

Posted by brandon On January - 28 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

YouTube Direct is a new venture by youtube.com to provide a link between news organizations and the average joe. Basically, the news organizations are able to create a platform through youtube that facilitates sollicating and reveiwing submissions from just about anyone. Then they can use it (if they like it) on their own news page or even on air. Not a bad concept. Just think of the videos we could have seen of the kid in colorado “flying” over the mountains…

Just found this video channel on Blip.tv today as I was uploading our latest episode on the Book of Destiny channel. This video in particular is taken from the point of view of a piece of luggage on a conveyor belt going through an art show. The old Berlin Tempelhof Central Airport has been turned into an art gallery…Check it out.

DEIDOX

deidox.png A friend of mine pointed me to this site. Generally, I am pretty hesitant about recommending “Christian” media sites because they honestly tend to look below second rate. However, I really like the thought, design, production quality, and ideology behind this site. Check out the “Robert” video. I love the shots and look; but the story is even better.

“Dangerous” Topic?

Posted by brandon On March - 15 - 2009 2 COMMENTS

dangerouscallingI came across this movie site for “Dangerous Calling“. It is billed as a “christian thriller”. Here is the storyline:

A suspense thriller set in the world of small town church politics, Dangerous Calling follows the story of Pastor Evan Burke and his wife Nora as they assume leadership of First Baptist Willit Springs after the mysterious death of the previous pastor.

Eager to get to know the new pastor, Miss Pat, the church’s controlling widow-woman, invites Evan and Nora to stay with her while she has the parsonage renovated. Left alone at Miss Pat’s beautiful home in the mountains of North Georgia, Nora begins to suspect that Miss Pat’s extremely sheltered adult son, Elijah, may have had something to do with the previous pastor’s death.

Although the story involves Christian characters, Dangerous Calling is not your typical church film. Owing more to Psycho and Misery than Left Behind, Dangerous Calling is sure to keep you on the edge of the pew. In this church the politics can be deadly.

I like the fact that this film isn’t afraid to venture into a non-typical genre for christian media. I haven’t seen it but I would love to…the production quality looks pretty good especially for a lower budget film. If you have seen this movie, let me know what you think.
