I just uploaded some new pics of Harley and Hannah…we were at the North Texas Irish Festival this afternoon and stopped by the Border Collie Rescue table. We were able to see all of the amazing people that took care of Hannah and helped her become the newest member of our family!!

Short update…

ok…this is going to be quick and short….kinda like when they rip that wax off when you are getting…well, never-mind. Anyway, it has been crazy around the Carmichael household lately: Becky had been busy at work and they are slowly wearing down her defenses against becoming a project manager…but when you have the Vp of the company sending you an email saying what a great job you are doing, you gotta expect that…Wright’s Direction has been just as busy…we are taking the show kicking and screaming into the 21st century. One of my biggest pet peeves since starting with Prestonwood has been how “White Bread” the sitcom is but God has given much grace in making strides toward making it more relevant to kids from all kinds of ethnicities and soci-economic status. Look for those updates to be in the next month or so….

I have uploaded some new pictures to my Flickr page of Hannah and Harley. Hannah has been with us for almost a month now and has been so much fun. Her personality is so cute in some ways and so miss priss in others! She will do something bad and then give you this look that will melt you! Needless to say, Becky has had a real challenge on being firmDSC00030 with her…but Harley is loving the companionship. Initially, Hannah had great fun stealing Harley’s bones from him…something which Harley wasn’t so happy about! but now they have worked out a deal so that she waits till he leaves it and then steals it :) And they have taken to snuggling up together on the bed in front of our door at night. I will add more as Beck and I organize them!!

Julie is home!!

Posted by brandon On January - 2 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

This week is bittersweet because Becky has left to goto Colorado Springs (thats the sad part) to see her sister Julie (G.I. Julie to non-family :) ) who is home from almost 18 months in Iraq (that is the supercalifragilesticexpialidocious part). Julie will be in Colorado Springs for about the next year doing state side training. It is SUCH an answer to prayer to have her home safe and for Becky and MaMa Howell to be able to spend this time with her.

On a side note, this is the first time that Becky and I have been apart since the wedding and it (Careful…censor non-church word) “sucks”!

We Are Expecting!!

Yes, it is true. Becky and I have been praying and thinking a lot about this and I am happy to announce that we will be welcoming a new addition to our family. It was a little touch and go there because the first couple of times, things didn’t click as it were. But we just got the confirmation that everything has “gone through” and we are to be the proud parents of ‘little’ 35lbs. Hannah. Here is our first picture of her:

That is right! This ‘little’ bundle of joy will be coming to live with us the day after Christmas. Amy and Kenny from Border Collie Rescue brought her by yesterday for a few hours for her and Harley to get aquatinted and for them to check our her new digs. They were absolutely amazing as was Hannah! I don’t think Harley has ever had that much fun. In fact, Becky and I both woke up this morning actually missing her even though she had only been here for a few hours.

UPDATE:

Here is some more info on Hannah… Please go check out the BCRT Website!

Post Thanksgiving

Posted by brandon On November - 25 - 2007 ADD COMMENTS

Thanksgiving was an unusual mixture of turkey, family, sorrow, and enjoyment. The turkey was amazing; the family was crazy (but awesome); the sorrow was because it is most probably the last time we will be in our house as an entire family period, much less the last Thanksgiving; and enjoyment because regardless of the location, if you are with my family you can’t have a bad time!

I am hoping to have pictures up soon…

Going Home

The Kilt Boys Ok, so we might not get into our kilts at Thanksgiving… but we should!! Actually, I just can’t wait to see my boys (Dad, Drew, and Ian) again. There will be turkey and football etc…but by far the best part will be us jack-spratting around while mom gives us (meaning dad) that look….you know, the look that says “Michael, you are not 20 years old and you should set and example” even thought it is the same look she has been giving him for 20 years to begin with!

More than Meets the Eye

Becky and I went on our first date as a married couple last night…we had a great time!! She got her nails done, I perused the mall and had a hot tea, and we went to see Transformers. What an awesome movie! It has been a long time since I walked out of a movie theater totally jazzed about the movie I just saw but Transfomers takes the cake. They didn’t go for the cheesy romantic angle (like when you are expecting them to kiss in the middle of a huge fight going on but instead they get back to helping the good guys), or the stupid laugh (though I do like the stupid humor), or even the typical socially awkard geek (Shia LaBeouf does a great job of portraying a unique, believable high school student who starts off pretty average).

And the special effects! I mean, I am around FX all the time but these were gorgeous! The guys at ILM (Industrial Lights & Magic) did a simply supurb job on the Robots and the effects. There is a fine line between cheesy and overdone and the nail it right on the money.

But enough about the movie…what really stuck with me from the movie was a comment that Becky made while we were in the middle of watching the movie…

While we were watching all the Army characters fighting to defend the city, Becky couldn’t help but think about Julie (my new sister) and they fighting going on in Iraq. There are a few obvious differences (Julie isn’t frontline infantry and we aren’t being attacked by nearly-indestructible robots) but the special effects guys did such a good job that you can almost feel the bullets whizzing over head. (Ok, no more about the movie I promise)

When I first met Julie, I was a little unsure of what to expect. Becky had told me all about her love for her sister as well as her hard headedness. All I was trying ti figure out was how to make Julie like me because it was obvious that her opnion and relationship meant so much to Becky. Then I spent a little time with Julie when I was meeting some of the family and I quickly realized that nobody makes Julie do anything.
So, Becky said to just be myself and let it happen. And over the last couple of years it has been cool to see or talk to Julie a couple times but not nearly as fun as getting to hang out with her at the rehearsal and wedding. (For example, it was important that I ask Julie for her permission during the ceremony to kiss Becky :) ) Then Julie and I had the first opportunity since Becky and I met to spend some brief one on one time together when she came to stay with us last weekend before heading back to Iraq. It was great to spend some, albeit short, quality time with someone that you have been praying for for months.
By the time we had to take her to the airport, instead of hanging with her at the check in desk for a couple of minutes, we ended up sitting down and laughing and talking for almost 5 hours! (Becky and I even tried to leave once and didn’t even get out of the terminal parking!!) Being the oldest of 6 and having three sisters, I can’t imagine having that kind of relationship with someone I have only seen a handfull of times over the last couple of years. But the three of use were goofing off and having fun like old friends ( ;) At least I was!).  I am both proud and grateful to have a new sister in the military; esspecially one with more courage than I can dream of…
